How do I know if my boat needs gel coat polishing?
Run your hand across the hull. If it feels rough or chalky, or leaves a white residue on your hand, the gel coat is oxidised and will respond well to polishing. Visually it looks dull and faded rather than glossy. Even moderate oxidation comes back dramatically. Send photos and we'll tell you what to expect.
Can you restore heavily oxidised gel coat?
Usually yes. Heavy oxidation needs more aggressive compounding and multiple stages, but the results are typically significant. The exception is gel coat oxidised all the way through to the fibreglass — at that point no amount of polishing restores it and re-gelcoating is the only option. We'll tell you honestly what's possible before starting.
How long does gel coat polishing take?
A smaller fishing boat or jet ski runs 2–4 hours. A full-size pontoon or bowrider typically runs 4–8 hours depending on oxidation. Heavily oxidised hulls needing multiple stages take longer — we'd rather do it right than rush it.
Should I add a ceramic coating after polishing?
It's worth it. Ceramic applied after polishing locks in the restored finish and significantly slows oxidation coming back. It also makes the hull much easier to clean — water beads off and algae doesn't bond as easily. A spray sealant is included with every polish; ceramic extends that protection from months to years.
Do you come to the marina or storage facility?
Yes. Marinas, indoor storage, outdoor lots, your driveway — wherever it's parked. We just need reasonable access to work around the vessel. Locations outside Fargo-Moorhead may include a travel fee, quoted upfront.
